East Downtown Dearborn hosted our signature event July and August, as the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (EDDDA) presented our 2013 Jazz on the Ave concert series in beautiful Dearborn City Hall Park, 13615 Michigan Avenue at Schaefer.

The concerts were Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, free of charge and open to the public. Concertgoers brought lawn chairs, blankets and even tables and staked out good spots for great music in the Park.

We showcased several neighborhood restaurants at each concert who sold their food at booths in the park. New this year, a face painter and balloon twister were onsite too!

Of course plenty of nearby restaurants were also open nearby too, and folks grabbed themselves some tasty carry-out and made it a picnic dinner during the show! Restaurants in East Downtown can be found here.

The concerts were held rain or shine, and despite several occasions of potentially inclement weather, it never stopped everyone from showing up!

The concert series ended  with a bang August 14 with Alexander Zonjic’s All-Star Jam that included very special guests: all the way from Vancouver, Canadian contemporary jazz star, trumpeter Gabriel Mark Hasselbach as well as James Lloyd from the great group, Pieces of a Dream and the Motor City Horns performed an exciting grand finale to a summer of jazz.

The EDDDA gives special thanks to series co-sponsors Oakwood Healthcare, the Dearborn Community Fund, the Times-Herald, Press & Guide and Metro Times newspapers. And here is a link to a radio segment from Newstalk WJR about the concert .
