2014 Jazz on the Ave Concert Series Ended with Record Numbers! See you next summer!

East Downtown Dearborn hosted its signature event in July and August where the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (EDDDA) presented their 2014 Jazz on the Ave concert series in beautiful Dearborn City Hall Park, 13615 Michigan Avenue at Schaefer (future home of City Hall Artspace Lofts—opening in fall/winter 2015!)

The concerts were Wednesday evenings, free of charge and open to the public. Folks brought lawn chairs and blankets and staked out a good spots for great music in the Park.

We  showcased several neighborhood restaurants at each concert who sold their food at booths in the Park. A face painter and balloon twister were there too!

New this year we combined another EDDDA signature event with the concerts, the “12 on 12” Popup Art Gallery…which is an open arts project that highlights 12 working artists from around southeastern Michigan in a temporary gallery that was located inside Dearborn City Hall. The 12 artists produced, exhibited and sold their work.  Gallery visitors voted to select a People’s Choice and two additional awards.

This project provided an opportunity to showcase visual arts, and increase visitors, visibility & business in East Downtown Dearborn while expanding the creative energy that is building in anticipation of the soon to be developed City Hall Artspace Lofts.

Of course plenty of nearby restaurants were open nearby too, and many folks grabbed themselves some tasty carry-out and made it a picnic dinner before the show! Check out the restaurants in East Downtown here.

The concerts were held rain or shine, and even threats of inclement weather and the “flood of 2014” did not slow concertgoers down!

The EDDDA gives special thanks to series co-sponsors Oakwood Healthcare, the Dearborn Community Fund, the Times-Herald, Press & Guide and Metro Times newspapers.
